- Milk-Bone dog biscuits were invented in 1908 when a bakery operated by the F. H. Bennett Biscuit Company on the Lower East Side of New York City made them for customers. The biscuits shaped like a bone were originally called “Maltoid” but the name was changed to “Milk-Bone” by 1926 due to the high amount of milk used in the biscuits.
The F.H. Bennet Biscuit Company was acquired by Nabisco in 1931, and Nabisco introduced other flavors such as chicken and beef. In 2006, Del Monte Foods of San Francisco acquired Milk-Bones. The bone-shaped biscuits still retain their East Coast origins, however, as they are exclusively manufactured at a facility in Buffalo, N.Y.

Milk-Bone biscuits come in several different varieties, including Original, Soft and Chewy, Crunchy Treats, Healthy Favorites and Essentials plus. The Healthy Favorites are a new line of Milk-Bones that are made from granola with rolled oats, flaxseed and carrots. The Healthy Favorites come in both chicken and beef flavors, as well as soft and chewy versions.
The Original Crunchy Treats come with a biscuit on the outside and bone marrow on the inside for a new spin on two favorites for dogs. The small treats are ideal for dog training, and also come in a new Mar-O-Snacks version with bacon and bone marrow for an extra treat for your dog.
The Essentials Plus+ line of Milk-Bones include supplemental vitamins and minerals for your dog. The Optimal Health variety also features antioxidants for immune systems and calcium for bone and joint health, as well as extra fiber for digestive tracts.

The Original Milk-Bone biscuits also come in smaller sizes for both small breeds and puppies. The Mini’s version of the dog biscuits are five calories each for dogs on a calorie-restricted diet. The biscuits also are offered in varieties for senior dogs that have 21 vitamins and minerals.
